A Q&A with Jesal Sisodia, Lettings Valuer at Go View

Tell us a bit about your background?

Being born and raised in London, I feel a great connection to the city and its people.  Racing from a young age to start my career in property in Canary Wharf at the age of 19, I have been lucky enough to work in all different areas to get a full feel of what each part of London’s real estate market has to offer.

Also, given I am a massive fan of Formula One and Manchester United, I still need to find the time to go to the games I can and watch the races over the weekend.

When did you start at Go View London and how has your position evolved in that time?

I started at Go View London back in late 2017 and have not looked back since.  I began as a Senior Lettings Negotiator, since then I have been promoted to Lettings Valuer.  Being a valuer gives me the best of both worlds:  I need to focus on business development and the overall experience for landlords and tenants, while at the same time the role keeps me involved with daily negotiating which I really enjoy.

What do you like about working in estate agency?

My interest in property started from a young age with my family having various investment properties, this has always given me a perspective over the positive and negative side of property investment.

So, property has always been something that I have been excited by and I’m in a role which allows me not sit behind a computer screen all day.  I can leave the office to meet multiple new faces on a daily basis and I get to visit some beautiful homes along the way.

What have you learned during your time in estate agency?

The most important thing that I have learned early on in my career and still hold on to today, 10 years later, is not to have an opinion.  What I may like in a property, someone may think is horrible and vice versa.  So very importantly, everyone has different views, the famous saying is of course ‘art is in the eye of the beholder’.  So, it’s best not to have an opinion in this business and just listen to the needs of your client.

What typically do people find most stressful about moving and how do they overcome it?

A lack of options meaning they have to look to make decisions quickly.  The amount of viable options out there has been massively affected by various legislative and commercial measures on the buy to let market in recent years, putting off new private rental landlords from entering the market.

In the last two years, properties are moving at a speed that has been unheard of previously.  It is, therefore, definitely beneficial to start your search early, and at the beginning of your two month notice period if moving from other accommodation.

What do you like to do away from work?

Estate agency can be extremely rewarding, but also a lot of work, quite often at unsociable hours, so it is very important to have valuable down time when not working.  Apart from the usual socialising with family and friends, for me, being able to hit a local track day or go to a racing circuit in my down time, really keeps me refreshed and energised for the week ahead.

Although, I love to watch every Manchester United game, I can’t say it gives me the same feeling of feeling refreshed for my week with the form over the last 10 years.  But as every sports fan knows, it’s the hope that kills and keeps us coming back every week.

Where do you like to go in Acton and Ealing when not working? Usually, you will catch me out of office hours trying one of the new restaurants which pop up, or my personal favourite Japanese restaurant ‘Ta Ke’ in Ealing Common.  Also, with how much Ealing and Acton has been regenerated over the last 5 years, there is now a lot of leisure and social facilities to visit, like the cinemas, arcades and local go kart circuit in Acton Vale.
