Q&A with Joanna Koperska, Head of Property Management

Tell us about your career and joining Go View London?

My career in property management began about two decades ago when I started as a property manager in a smaller agency.  Over time, I gained valuable experience and expertise in managing various types of properties, including residential blocks. Joining Go View London was a pivotal moment for me.  I was attracted to their reputation for excellence in customer service and their commitment to professionalism.  I was excited to take on the role of head of property management and contribute to the growth and success of the company.

How has your role evolved over time at Go View?

Since joining Go View, my role has evolved significantly.  Initially, I focused on overseeing day-to-day property management operations, ensuring that our landlords and tenants received exceptional service.  However, as the company grew, my role expanded to include shaping the direction of our property management department.

How do you overcome and mitigate issues in the world of property?

To overcome challenges within the overall framework of regulatory compliance, effective communication is key.   We strive to maintain open and transparent communication channels with both landlords and tenants to address issues promptly and find mutually beneficial solutions.   Additionally, we have robust systems in place for proactive maintenance planning, thorough tenant screening, and complete regular property inspections to mitigate potential problems.

What advice would you give a first-time landlord?

For first-time landlords, my advice would be to educate yourself about landlord-tenant laws and regulations, thoroughly screen prospective tenants, maintain open communication with your tenants, and prioritise property maintenance.   It’s also essential to have a financial buffer for unexpected expenses and to consider hiring a reputable property management company to handle day-to-day operations.

Tell us about the block management expansion and the overall aim of the department.

Our block management expansion aims to provide comprehensive management services for residential and commercial blocks of all sizes.  We handle everything from maintenance and repairs to financial management and compliance, ensuring that properties are well-maintained and residents are satisfied.  We aim to become a trusted partner for property owners and residents, offering a personalised service and tailored solutions to meet their specific needs.

What’s a significant property management obstacle you’ve overcome?

One significant obstacle I’ve faced in my career was managing a large-scale renovation project for a residential block with strict budget constraints and tight timelines.  To overcome this challenge, I collaborated closely with contractors, negotiated favourable terms, and implemented efficient project management strategies.  By prioritising communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail, we were able to successfully complete the project on time and within budget, to the satisfaction of all stakeholders.

What do you like doing away from work?

Away from work, I enjoy spending time outdoors, exploring nature trails, and trying out new restaurants and cafes. In Acton and Ealing, there are plenty of hidden gems to discover, from charming local pubs to picturesque parks.   One of my favourite areas is Acton Park, which offers a tranquil escape from the bustling city life.  Additionally, Ealing Broadway is known for its vibrant cultural scene, with theatres, galleries, and live music venues to explore.
